The decision that the interested circles, civil society, diplomats etc. had been waiting for was finally decided last week, and the outcome is very positive for Geneva – the main quarter of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and proud of its humanitarian tradition – and Switzerland more generally: Geneva will be the host of the permanent secretariat of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), adopted in 2013 and entered into force on 24 December 2014. Legal basis for this institution is Article 18 of the the ATT.
